MARCH 12, 2016

So many people are suffering from Depression and Anxiety, that it has become almost an epidemic.  When a person suppresses their feelings instead of talking about them or letting them out, it may cause physical ailments and dark thoughts.  On my episode with Dr. Patrice Carter, she explains how she conquered such things as depression and suicidal thoughts.  Listen here if you have had a chance yet, because my take away’s will make more sense if you listen to it.

Dr. Patrice Carter is a Motivation speaker, Life Coach and Author of “SUPERB Woman: From Bad Girl to God’s Girl”.  Actually, Patrice wears many hats.  To Find out how many go here:www.drpatricecarter.com

IT’S OKAY TO GET HELP

I have the highest respect for a person when they admit they need help and then “GET HELP.”  It really is okay to take care of yourself.  Too often, pride gets in the way for people to admit they need help.  At least that’s what we are told. I hear often, “I wish her pride wouldn’t get in the way; or even I wish his pride wouldn’t get in the way.” When yes, we can define it as pride, but I like to look at things a little deeper.  Maybe it’s a curse and a gift, but I like to know the reason why things happen or why people are the way they are.  So, When a person doesn’t want to get help, it could be, in my opinion, that they actually don’t feel worthy.  It’s a self defense mechanism to say “I don’t need help.” When quite frankly, they mean the opposite.

IT REALLY IS OKAY TO TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF.

Patrice surrounded herself with the right people.  She knew that she needed to acknowledge the truth. And the truth is, she didn’t like having suicidal thoughts.  She didn’t like the path of destruction she was on.  Patrice challenges all of us to: “GET HELP”.  When we get help, we are allowing other people to hold us accountable to do the necessary steps it takes to get better, even when we are at our lowest.  LIPTalk Nation, you are not in this alone.  Even if you feel like it.  If you feel like it, than you’re lying to yourself.  Reach out to me, you don’t have to believe me, but I do know HOW to help you.  Dr. Patrice Carter knows how to help you.  THERE IS ALWAYS HOPE.

HAVE PERSONAL INTEGRITY

While Patrice was living her “bad girl” lifestyle, she confidently pointed out that she did not know her own personal integrity.  She didn’t know her self worth.  It was after she confronted her past, and got help that she realized that God made her for a purpose.  We hold strongly, at Life In Purple, to the belief that you are WONDERFULLY MADE.  God does not make any mistakes. So I asked Patrice what a virtuous woman means to her and the words “a virtuous woman has personal integrity” stood out.  Yes, a virtuous woman also knows her gifts, and she take’s care of her family and possessions… but… A VIRTUOUS WOMAN knows her self worth.

WE HOLD STRONGLY TO THE BELIEF THAT YOU ARE WONDERFULLY MADE.

One of the first reason’s for the title of our podcast “LIFE IN PURPLE” is because purple is the color of a virtuous woman, not a perfect woman; but, a woman who knows her personal integrity and self worth.  LIPTalk Nation, YOU are worthy.  I will not stop saying this.  It’s really not about our past, but about our future.  God has a perfect plan for us IF we allow Him to use us.  Are you willing?

Regardless of where you stand on religious views, I believe we are called to love.  So that means, “We can wipe the dust from our feet” like Patrice says.  Sometimes, midway through the day, I say to myself, “I need to start today over.”  Works like a charm.

It’s okay to be overwhelmed. It’s okay to feel.  Speak life over you and your family.  These words matter.  So why not take Dr. Patrice Carter’s challenge to “Get Real”.  I accept this challenge.

IT’S OKAY TO BE A LATE BLOOMER

The words, “I started over at 40”, really stood out to me, as I was listening to Patrice share how she got her start and where she is from.  She had a career job of working in the government contractor world, but something was tugging at her heart to live out her calling.  I was on the edge of my sit waiting to hear what she had to say about her calling.  I know many people who have gone through their whole lives and never knew what their calling was.  So, I’m thinking, “She is about to give people hope.” Well, She called herself a late bloomer, which is what I claim to be.  The tugging on her heart was to “help others”.  So she went to school to get her coaching degree, had a great support system and took a leap of faith to live out her calling.

THE WORDS, “I STARTED OVER AT 40”, REALLY STOOD OUT TO ME…

Seven years have gone by since she started this journey; and Patrice will be the first to tell you that the journey has been difficult, yet rewarding.  In her episode, she admits that she had to confront the “bad girl” lifestyle she was living.  Really, no one knew what lifestyle that was, which made it even more difficult to confront.  In her words, she did anything that made her feel good and still knew the difference between right and wrong; but, on the inside, the Holy Spirit was nudging her to break this cycle of adultery and negative thinking.   LIPTalk Nation, I really love how she decided to confront herself and to tell others about her lifestyle.  How many of you need to do the same thing?  Although it’s not easy to confront yourself, it IS rewarding.  GET REAL!!
